Rajith N. De Silva has been with the BHR University Hospitals NHS Trust since 1998, when he came down from Scotland to be appointed as one of three Consultant Neurologists at Oldchurch Hospital. He has seen the department grow to one of 8 Neurologists, and part of a truly integrated neurosciences unit. The department is also a recognized teaching center for undergraduates from Queen Mary and Westfield University, and it hosts neurology specialist trainees from the Eastern and London Deaneries and Sri Lanka. His special interests are as shown, and he has recently received training in the use of Botox for chronic migraine management. In the field of ataxia, he serves as a Medical Advisor for Ataxia UK and the Head the North Thames DeNDRoN ataxia working party; moreover, he has recently been awarded a grant for setting up a database of ataxia patients in the region. He sees patients with ataxia and other neurogenetics conditions at his monthly specialist clinic at Queen’s Hospital. He is an enthusiastic teacher and will be well known to local primary care practitioners through his regular contributions to their teaching programme.
