Said Easa

Dr. Said Easa is currently Full Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Director of Quality Assurance for the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science, Ryerson University, Canada. He earned his B.Sc. from Cairo University, M.Eng. from McMaster University (Canada) and Ph.D. from University of California at Berkeley. He has 25 years of professional experience in the areas of transportation and highway engineering. He has published 450 technical work including more than 200 refereed journal articles. Dr. Easa is Associate Editor of the Journal of Transportation Engineering, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering. He was editor of an ASCE bestselling book on Urban Planning and Development Applications of GIS. He is the author of a chapter on Design Consistency in the Geometric Design Guide for Canadian Roads and a chapter on Geometric Design in the U.S. Civil Engineering Handbook. In 1998, he served as chair of the ASCE Urban Transportation Division and co-chair of the ASCE specialty conference on Transportation, Land Use, and Air Quality: Making the Connection, held in Portland. He has served as member of the Board of Directors and Vice-President (Administration) of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) and chair of the CSCE transportation specialty conference series (1996 to 2005). Dr. Easa’s work received several national and international awards, including the 2001 Frank M. Masters Transportation Engineering Award from ASCE and the 2003 Sandford Fleming Award from CSCE for outstanding contributions to transportation engineering and practice, the 2005 Wellington M. Arthur Prize from ASCE for best journal paper in transportation engineering and related fields, and the 2010 Award of Academic Merit from Transportation Association of Canada “in recognition of long-term contribution to the advancement of the academic field and to the development of tomorrow's transportation leaders.”
