Dr. Andrea Lauková is senior scientific researcher at Institute of Animal Physiology Slovak Academy of Sciences, Laboratory of Animal Microbiology. She gradutaed Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Košice (Slovakia). She has worked in the animal microbiology especially in the study of bacteriocins produced by lactic acid bacteria among Firmicutes more than 30 years. Related with this task she was participated in EU projects. She has provided pioniering study concerning the bacteriocins produced by the food-animal derived bacteria, predominantly by enterococci. She isolated the strains Enterococcus faecium, which can be/are used in animal husbandry. E. faecium AL41 produced a new type of enterocin- Ent M. Her citation index is 1090+. She also leads national, bilateral scientific projects. The probiotic and bacteriocin –producing strains characterized in their laboratory are a part of commercial products for small animals, poultry and dogs.
