Marian Ludgate received a B.S. degree in microbiology (1973), and a Ph.D. degree in tumour immunology (1978). In introduction to his post-doctoral research, he worked (1982–1985) with Tony Weetman & Alan McGregor on autoimmune thyroid disease. He moved to Brussels in 1986, and worked with Gilbert Vassart & Jacques Dumont on molecular characterization thyroid antigens. Then he returned to UK (1994), to work on the effects of G-protein-coupled receptor signalling in thyroid. He extended the work on this topic to include impact on lineage specific differentiation, especially adipogenesis.
