Nicola Giuliani, in September 1993, graduated in medicine and surgery at the University of Florence, Florence, Italy, with the score of 110/110 and “first class honors degree.” In November 1999, he specialized in internal medicine at the University of Parma, Parma, Italy, with the score of 50/50 and “first class honors degree.” From March 1999 to September 2000, he received a fellowship in hematology at the INSERM U463, Nantes, France, on the pathophysiology of bone lesions in multiple myeloma and the role of RANKL in myeloma-induced osteoclast formation. He studied for the Ph.D. degree at the University of Parma from January 2001 to 2003. He was an Assistant Professor in hematology of the University of Parma from February 2001 to November 2010. In July 2004 and July 2008, he was visiting at the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA, USA. From November 2010 till now, he is an Associate Professor of hematology at the University of Parma. From November 2010 till now, he is the Head of the Research Laboratory of Hematology at the University of Parma. He received a Grant of the Ligue Nationale Contre le Cancer, Nantes, France, in 1999-2000. He received the Young Investigator Award of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) in the year 2001. He also received the Junior Award Grant of the International Myeloma Foundation in 2006 and the Senior Award Grant of the International Myeloma Foundation in 2009. He was Group Leader of Grants of the Italian Minister of University and Research (MIUR) in the year 2004, Principal Investigator of the Grant of the Associazione Italiana Ricerca sul Cancro (AIRC), Grant application IG2009, and Group Leader of the Grant AIRC 5/1000 Special Program Molecular Clinical Oncology, from 2010 to 2015. He has published a number of publications “in extenso”: 83; total impact factor (IF): 490 (average: 5.9), IF first and last author 292 (average: 6.5), and H-index: 28.
