Gabriele Messina obtained a Specialist degree in hygiene and public health with distinction, in 2003, from UNISI, Italy, an M.S. degree in epidemiology from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), London, UK, in 2002, and Medicine and Surgery degrees with full marks from UNISI, Italy, in 1999. Messina has been a Consultant for clinics/hospitals/companies (physical, chemical, and microbiological controls and testing products/devices) since 2011. He was a Consultant for the Regional Health Agency of the Italian Tuscany Region (ARSS), from 2009 to 2011, a Member of the Tuscany Working Group of the Italian Association of Epidemiology (AIE), from 2006 to 2009, and a Research Consultant in project Mattone: Ospedali di Riferimento, Italian Ministry of Health, from 2005 to 2007. He has been a Consultant for the National Observatory of Health of the Italian Region, Catholic University of Rome, Italy, since 2004, and a Research Professor of hygiene and public health (pre- and postgraduate courses: epidemiology, statistics, hygiene, and public health) since 2005. Messina’s research fields include epidemiology, hospital acquired infections, hygiene, patients’ mobility, risk adjustment technique, and health related quality of life. Messina published more than 110 scientific full papers and 2 patents (+ 6 pending) and is a Referee/Associate Editor/Member in scientific committee of national and international Journals. Messina’s achievements include best posters: 2006 “Measure Your Health!,” 14th European Conference of Public Health (EUPHA); 2009 “How Many Bacteria Live on the Keyboard of Your Computer?,” 2nd (EUPHA); 2010 “Road Traffic Accidents: Can Road Safety Education Prevent Hazardous Behaviours?,” 3rd (EUPHA)M; 2012 “Unpleasant and Stinking Hosts,” 5th (EUPHA); 2015 “Disinfecting the Stethoscope Membrane through a Hi-Tech UV Device: A Pilot Study,” 3rd Int. Conf. Epidem. and Public Health. In 2016, Messina won the UV Product Innovation Award 2016: Stet Clean, at the Congress of the International Ultraviolet Association (IUVA).
