George Silvay

George Silvay, M.D., Ph.D., was born in Czechoslovakia, where he earned his M.D. degree at the Medical School of the Comenius University in Bratislava. His postgraduate training included residency in the Department of General Surgery (Board of Surgery and Ph.D. in Cardio-thoracic Surgery and Pathophysiology). He was a visiting attending in Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Leipzig, Germany and a Fellow in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. In 1970 he started his residency in the Department of Anesthesiology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he rose to the academic rank of Professor of Anesthesiology in 1980. Until present he is active in clinical cardio-thoracic anesthesia. Dr. Silvay has served as author and co-author on over 120 peer-reviewed publications on topics of cardio-thoracic anesthesiology and surgery in several languages (Slovak, Czech, English, German, Russian and Japanese). He obtained several National Honorary Memberships and served in many national and international societies (Board of Directors (1987-1991), and Chairman, International Affairs Committee, (1985-1992), in the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists; The New York Academy of Medicine, Section of Anesthesiologists, Secretary (1998-2002), and Chairman (1989-1990). In the last ten years he was invited as a visiting professor to sixty Academic Institutions in the USA and abroad.
