His research has involved in molecular recognition in water since his first research project as an undergraduate at Amherst College. Other broad areas of interest include bioorganic chemistry/chemistry biology, supramolecular chemistry, biomaterials, and nanotechnology. Belitsky completed a Ph.D. degree with Peter Dervan at Caltech in 2002, and he was a Postdoctoral Fellow with Fraser Stoddart at UCLA from 2002 to 2005.
