Monica Mattioli Belmonte

Università Politecnica delle Marche, Italy

Monica Mattioli Belmonte obtained a degree in biological sciences at the University of Bologna, Italy, in 1986 and she worked in the Department of Hematology in the same University till 1991. In November 1995, she completed her Ph.D. studies with researches on materials compatibility. From 1996 to 1998, she worked at the School of Medicine, the Institute of Normal Human Morphology, the University of Ancona (now Università Politecnica delle Marche, Italy) as a Postdoc and as a Contract Researcher until 2004, with research as well as teaching responsibilities. In January 2005, she became a researcher. Actually, she works in the Section of Histology and Human Embryology, Department of Clinical and Molecular Sciences at the aforementioned university. She acts as Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Bioactive and Compatible Polymers (SAGE Publication), Reviewer of several international journals in the field of biomaterial, tissue engineering, stem cells, and regenerative medicine. The scientific activity of Mattioli is documented by several published works on topics of hematology, cytology, histology, orthopedics, and stem cell research. For some years, she has been involved in studying cellular and tissutal reactivity in the presence of biomaterials. Her research, which focuses on the fields of morphology and molecular biology, is based on cell culture, light, and scanning electron microscopy in both in vivo and in vitro models. Her research activities have been performed in collaboration with other Departments of the Università Politecnica delle Marche and research laboratories either in Italy or abroad.
