Manuel Azenha was born in 1970. He gained the B.S, M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Porto, Porto, Portugal. Azenha is currently a Lecturer at the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department of the Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto. Before this position, he was granted the M.S., Ph.D., and postdoc scholarships by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, developing research in the field of chemical speciation and bioavailability in biological culture media and foodstuff and wines (metallic cations and other contaminants). Concomitantly with embracing the academic career, he changed his research interests. He became involved in the development of solid-phase microextraction coatings based on sol-gel chemistry and on the fabrication of molecularly imprinted gels/polymers for analytical applications. A sabbatical period in the Dortmund Technical University with Professor B. Sellergren was devoted to the later subject. He currently supervises one M.S. and two Ph.D. students under this scope.
