Rafael Martinez-Guerra was born in Mexico City in 1959. He received an M.S. degree in electrical engineering from CINVESTAV-IPN, Mexico City, Mexico, in 1986, the Diplô me d'Etudes Approfondies (DEA) in mathematical and automatic engineering from Ecole des Mines de Paris, France ,in 1987, and he earned his Ph.D. degree from Universidad AutonÓma Metropolitana Mexico City, D.F., Mexico , in 1996. Currently, he serves as a Researcher at the Automatic Control Department of Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados, Instituto Politécnico Nacional (CINVESTAV-IPN) and has been a Member of the National System of Researchers since 1992(currently, level II). He is the author and coauthor of more than 50 papers in international journals and more than 100 contributions in international conferences with proceedings. His main research interests are in the field of nonlinear systems, differential geometric and differential algebraic methods, nonlinear observers, fault diagnosis problem, chaos, and fractional systems.
