Jonatas S. Abrahão

Jônatas S. Abrahão is Professor of virology at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG-Brazil) and Member of direction board of Brazilian Society of Virology (environmental virology field). He received his degree of biologist from UFMG, as such as his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in microbiology (virology). He is the Head of Giant Viruses Prospecting and Study Group (UFMG), the first group to isolate giant viruses from amoebas in Brazil. He serves as Associate Editor of New Microbes and New Infections, and as Reviewer of several journals, as PNAS, Emerging Infectious Diseases, Vaccine and others. Working in collaboration with Dr. Bernard La Scola (Université de la Méditerranée Aix Marseille II) his research group has been exploring giant viruses diversity and their ecological role in Brazilian microbial communities, especially their relationship with free-living amoebas.
