Eugenio Ferreira is a Full Professor at the Biological Engineering Department, University of Minho, Braga, Portugal, where he leads a research group on bioprocess engineering and computational biosystems. He has been working as Associate Dean for research of the School of Engineering of the same university (from 2010 to 2013) and is Director of the Ph.D. program on bioengineering (MIT-Portugal Program). From 2004 to 2010 he served as Vice-Chair of the Department of Biological Engineering and as Director of the M.S. program on environmental management. Professor Ferreira was the Chair of the Chemical and Biological Engineering Section, Portuguese Engineers Institution (from 2010 to 2013), the General-Secretary of the Portuguese Society of Biotechnology, and the Editor-in-Chief of Engenharia Química from 2006 to 2008. He is responsible for the Portuguese Portal of the Working Party on Education in Chemical Engineering of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering and is a Member of the IFAC Technical Committee on Biosystems and Bioprocesses. Also, he is a member of the Editorial Board of BioMed Research International, Chemical Product and Process Modeling, Brazilian Journal of Chemical Engineering, and Environmental Engineering and Management Journal. He was the Chair of the organization committee of the CHEMPOR2008, International Chemical Engineering Congress. In addition, he integrated the organizing committees of several conferences and the international program committees of more than 30 conferences. His supervision of students has involved 13 Ph.D. theses, with one of them being awarded the CUF Prize for the Best Chemical and Biological Engineering thesis in Portugal (2003), and 11 M.S. dissertations, leading to 7 ongoing Ph.D. research projects. Professor Ferreira has published 8 books and is the author of more than 135 international refereed papers and book chapters. In addition, at least 255 papers and communications in conferences have been published by him.
