Michael Bru¨nig serves as a Professor of applied mechanics at the Universität der Bundeswehr München, Germany. He received his Diploma in civil engineering in 1985 from the University of Hannover. In 1989, he received the Doctoral degree (Dr.-Ing.) in civil engineering from the Ruhr-University Bochum. After a postdoc phase at the University of Dortmund, he finished his Habilitation degree in 1998. Then, he served as Head of a research group working in the field of continuum damage mechanics. Since 2010, he works as a Full Professor of applied mechanics at the University of Federal Armed Forces Munich. His current research fields are multiscale continuum and computational mechanics, damage and fracture of solids, and modeling and numerical simulation of inelastic behavior of structures. He is member of the Editorial Boards of seven international journals and Regional Editor of Recent Patents on Mechanical Engineering.
