Luisella Bocchio-Chiavetto holds a degree in chemistry (organic/biochemistry), University of Milan, Milan, Italy, 1994. She completed a postgraduate specialization in toxicology at the same university in 2001. Bocchio-Chiavetto serves as the Head of the Neuropsychopharmacology Unit at IRCCS Centro S. Giovanni di Dio Fatebenefratelli, Brescia, Italy, since 2006 to 2014 (molecular studies for the identification of biomarkers in mental disorders). From 2014 she is Associate Professor in applied biology at the Faculty of Psychology, eCampus University, Novedrate (Como), Italy and is still collaborating with IRCCS for the research activities. During her biomedical research activity, she has participated, also as a Principal Investigator, in several studies investigating susceptibility genes for psychiatric disorders and molecular markers associated with diagnosis and response to treatment. Her main research fields have been the role of immune system modulators and neurotrophic factors in the pathogenesis and in the action mechanism of pharmacological and nonpharmacological therapies of schizophrenia, major depression, and dementias. She has been the Scientific Coordinator of several projects of Ricerca Corrente and Ricerca Finalizzata (as Head of the Operative Unit) of the Italian Ministry of Health and Cariplo Foundation grants. Bocchio-Chiavetto is the coauthor of 45 high-quality publications in peer-reviewed international journals and one book chapter.
