Gianfranco Gilardi received his Ph.D. degree in biotechnology in 1991 at Imperial College London (UK). After a postdoctoral fellowship at Leiden University (NL), he moved back to Imperial College London in 1994 with a tenure position where he was a full time Reader in protein engineering until 2002. He serves currently as a Professor of biochemistry at the University of Torino (IT) and works as an Honorary Visiting Professor at Imperial College London (UK). His research interests are in the areas of protein structure function, protein engineering, biocatalysis, optical and amperometric biosensors, drug design, and metabolism. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Member of the American Chemical Society and The Biochemical Society. He has been involved as a founder of a number of spin-off enterprises.
