Zoran Ikonic was born in 1956 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. He received the B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees, all in electrical engineering (with applied physics) from the University of Belgrade, Yugoslavia (now Serbia), in 1980, 1984, and 1987, respectively. From 1981 he has been with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade (Full Professor from 1998). In 1999 he joined the Institute of Microwaves and Photonics, University of Leeds, U.K., where he now holds a permanent Senior Research post in the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. His research interests include the electronic band structure, linear / nonlinear optical properties, classical and quantum transport in low-dimensional semiconductor nanostructures, modelling and optimization of devices based upon them, as well as solid state lasers physics and engineering, silicon photonics, and plasmonics. He has co-authored over 220 journal papers and over 300 conference papers, as well as a couple of book chapters.
