Adriano Casulli, holder of the Ph.D. degree, is a Senior Scientist at the European Union Reference Laboratory for Parasites (EURLP) and the Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for the Epidemiology, Detection, and Control of Cystic and Alveolar Echinococcosis in Humans and Animals (http://apps.who.int/whocc/Detail.aspx?cc_ref=ITA-07&cc_title=echinococcosis&). He has long-standing experience in the epidemiology and molecular biology of helminthic zoonoses with specific competences on Echinococcus spp. and cystic/alveolar echinococcosis. His expertise also includes the validation of analytical methods in zoonotic parasitic infections (ISO/IEC 17025:2005) and the organization of PTs for the detection of zoonotic parasites (ISO/IEC 17043:2010) and he is assessor in the quality system management. He has more than 60 scientific publications, is a reviewer for 18 international peer-reviewed journals, and is a member of the editorial board of 4 journals, comprising PloS NTD. He was recently granted by GP/EFSA/AHAW/2012/01: Echinococcus multilocularis infection in animals, 2012–2015 (Project Coordinator), funded by the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) FP7/HEALTH: HERACLES (Human Cystic Echinococcosis ReseArch in CentraL and Eastern Societies, 2013–2017 (Project Coordinator), and funded by the European Commission under the Seventh Framework Programme (http://www.heracles-fp7.eu/).
