User Biography : Prof Hai-Yin Yu Biographies for Hai-Yin Yu Dr. Hai-Yin Yu received the bachelor’s degree (1991) in polymer science and technology from Jinan University, China, and the Ph.D. degree (2006) in polymer chemistry and physics from Zhejiang University. His Ph.D. research with Prof. Zhi-Kang Xu is based on polypropylene membrane surface modification for the antifouling characteristics improvement in membrane bio-reactor. He started as an assistant professor in June 2006 at the College of Chemistry and Materials Science, Anhui Normal University and was promoted to professor in November 2009. He is also working with Prof. Baoxia Mi at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland at College Park as a postdoctoral fellow in polyamide forward osmosis membrane (2012). Dr. Yu is the author of more than 30 publications. His honors include the third prize in science and technology from Anhui province, China (2010); Natural Science Award from the Ministry of Education, China (second class, 2007); and candidate for academic and technical leader of Anhui province. His main research interests are in the surface modification of polyolefin and polyamide membranes with various methods. He is also a pioneer in membrane surface modification by marrying click chemistry with living polymerization, membrane surface modification for the antifouling characteristics improvement in membrane bio-reactor. Dr. Yu is currently active in modification of polyamide forward osmosis membrane surface.
