Faculty of Life and Physical Sciences, The University of Western Australia (M011), 35 Stirling Highway, CRAWLEY WA 6009, Australia, Australia

Manikandan Jayapal currently works at the University of Western Australia (UWA), Perth, Australia, as an Adjunct Faculty. Jayapal is also an Assistant Professor and Head of Bioinformatics Department at the Center of Excellence in Genomic Medicine Research (CEGMR), King Abdul Aziz University (KAU). During the twelve-year experience in both academic research and biotechnology industry, Jayapal has applied unique strategies to identify genes involved in complex diseases and translate gene function from the laboratory to the clinic. Jayapal, in the research, combined bioinformatics approaches with experimental components in a unified effort to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of life-threatening diseases through the identification of risk factors, drug targets, and biomarkers. Jayapal’s work resulted in over fifty international peer-reviewed publications. In the current research plan, Jayapal has more translational questions that deal with personalized disease therapies. Prior to joining the KAU faculty, Jayapal was working for Partek Inc., USA, as an Application Scientist and technically supported genomics applications to the world’s leading edge government institutions, pharmaceutical, and biotech industries, academic research, and medical institutions. Jayapal also, both directly and indirectly, lead teams to design, develop, market, and support bioinformatics software for molecular biology, genomics, and synthetic biology. Previously, Jayapal was a Research Fellow at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore, from 2002–2009. Jayapal obtained the Ph.D. in genomic medicine from NUS and also holds an M.S. degree in Biotechnology. Recently, Jayapal has also received grants of over 2 Million USD from the KACST, Saudi Arabia, and NHMC, Australia, as Chief investigator and Co-investigator.
