Vishwa Mohan Katoch after his post graduation in Microbiology and training at VA Medical Centre (USA) and National Institute of Medical Research (UK) joined Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi as Talent Search Scheme Fellow in JALMA, Agra and rose to the post of Director of the same Institute. Presently he is Secretary to the Govt. of India, Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research. His highly cited research work over last two decades have resulted in identification of new genotypes, diagnostic techniques / better understanding of molecular basis of drug resistance and mechanisms of pathogenesis of tuberculosis, leprosy and other mycobacterial infections. He is recipient of ‘Excellence in Science & Technology Award’ for the year 2010-2011 by Indian Science Congress Association besides many other honors.
