Ruy Carlos Ruver Beck serves as a Professor and a Vice-Director at Faculdade de Farmácia, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil. He graduated in industrial pharmacy (1997) and obtained the M.S. degree in pharmaceutical sciences (2001), Sandwich Doctorate from the Department of Biopharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology, Saarland University, Germany (2004), and the Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences in 2005. His Ph.D. thesis focused on the development of drug-loaded nanoparticle-coated microagglomerates intended to oral administration. The study was carried out using different techniques in order to optimize the formulations and to evaluate their physicochemical properties and in vitro and in vivo advantages. In 2005, he started working as a Professor at Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM, Brazil). His research area involved the development of pharmaceutical and cosmetic products based on nanotechnological dispersions. Wet granulation was reported as a feasible alternative to dry polymeric nanocapsule suspensions. He moved to the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS, Brazil), in 2010, to assume the professor position and to develop research on the nanotechnological field. Nowadays, Beck is also a member of the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Nanotecnologia Farmacêutica. Some of his works have also been focused on the validation of analytical methods for drug assay in pharmaceutical formulations. Supervisor of 4 doctoral theses and 9 M.S. of science theses (6 concluded) since 2006. Beck has more than 40 papers since 2001. He his the editor of the book Nanocosmetics and Nanomedicines: New Approaches for Skin Care (2011).
