Valery M. Melnikov

Valery M. Melnikov obtained his M.S. degree in physics and his Ph.D. degree in geophysics from the Main Geophysical Observatory, Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 1983. Melnikov has been a Research Scientist at the Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies, University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK, USA, since 1997. He was also a senior engineer from 1984 to 1987, a Scientist from 1987 to 1990, and a Senior Scientist from 1990 to 1997 at the Main Geophysical Observatory, Saint Petersburg, Russia. His field of activity is radar meteorology and remote sensing, and his publications can be found in the Journal of Atmospheric and Oceanic Technology, the Journal of Applied Meteorology and Climatology, the IEEE Transaction on GRS and GRSL, the Journal of Geophysical Research, and the Journal of Geophysical Research Letters. Melnikov has been, furthermore, directly involved in the design of ground-based and on-board Russian radars and the development of advanced radar signal processing technologies for more than twenty years, and he has been also involved in improvements to the US National NEXRAD Weather Radar Network for more than ten years.
