Nikolaos G. Koulouris

Nikolaos G. Koulouris graduated in 1980 from the National University of Athens, Greece. He was trained in respiratory medicine at the University Department of Respiratory Medicine in ?SOTIRIA? Hospital, Athens, Royal Brompton and King?s College Hospitals, London, UK under the supervision of Professors Malcolm Green and John Moxham. He acquired the Diploma in thoracic medicine of the University of London. He also finished an M.D. degree thesis at the University Department of Microbiology in Athens, in 1983. He received a Ph.D. thesis from the Respiratory Muscle Laboratory, Cardiothoracic Institute, University of London, where he developed techniques to detect strength and fatigue of the respiratory muscles in 1989. He also worked at the Meakins-Christie Labs in Montreal, QC, Canada with Professor J Milic-Emili where they developed a novel technique, namely, the negative expiratory pressure technique (NEP). He is currently Professor in respiratory medicine and Head of the 1st University Respiratory Department in ?SOTIRIA?Chest Hospital of Athens, Greece.
