Emilia Lecuona

Emilia Lecuona was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain in 1968. She received the pharmacy degree and the Ph.D. degree (biochemistry and molecular biology) from the Universidad de La Laguna, Tenerife, Spain, in 1991 and 1996, respectively. She did a postdoctoral training under Professor J. Sznajder at UIC (1997–1999) and Northwestern University (1999–2002). Since 2003, Lecuona has been a Research Assistant Professor at the Northwestern University in the Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care, Feinberg School of Medicine. In 2009, she became a Coleader in the “Cell Culture and Physiology Core B” of a PPG. She is mainly interested in the pathophysiology of the alveolar epithelium with a focus in the mechanisms of sodium transport and fluid reabsorption. She has studied the regulation of the alveolar Na, K-ATPase from a cell and molecular pharmacology point of view. She is a Member of the American Thoracic Society and participates as a Peer-Reviewer in several journals as well in the doctoral committee of Ph.D. candidates.
