Dr. Carla Prado is an Assistant Professor at Federal University of São Paulo, Diadema. She was trained by Dr. Iolanda Tibério at the School of Medicine - University of São Paulo and received her PhD in 2005. She then joined the laboratory of Dr. Mílton de Arruda Martins also at the School of Medicine - University of São Paulo to do her post-doctoral training, where she worked for 3 years. She was recruited to the Federal University of São Paulo, Diadema in 2008 as part of the faculty that was chosen to initiate the teaching and research activities in this new University. Since then, she has been working extensively to establish her research laboratory and to help in the creation of the Graduate Program in Chemical Biology at the UNIFESP-Diadema. Her research focuses on mechanisms of lung disease physiopathology, mainly on the influence of the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway on inflammatory markers and also in the investigation of new drugs, such as flavonoids, that could interfere with lung inflammation. Currently Dr. Carla Prado holds 2 operating grants as principal investigator (FAPESP-Young investigator, 2009-2013; CNPq-Universal grant, 2010-2012), collaborates in a third operating grant (FAPESP-Thematic, 2009-2013) and 4 of her graduate students are supported by FAPESP fellowships. In 2009 Dr. Carla Prado was awarded a competitive junior fellowship from the National Science Foundation (CNPq-Brazil). She is presently supervising 8 students (4 from the Graduate program of the University of São Paulo and 4 from the Graduate Program in Chemical Biology at the UNIFESP-Diadema) and her first trainee will conclude her Master in 2012. She has served as reviewer for the Journals: Clinical and Experimental allergy, Clinics, Plos One, Fisioterapia e Pesquisa and Revista Brasileira de Fisioterapia.
