Julian López-Gómez was born in Sacedón, Spain, in 1959. He received the degree in mathematics in 1981 from Complutense University, Madrid, where he got the Ph.D. degree in mathematics in 1984. In January 1986 he got a Professorship at the Polytechnical University of Madrid, and, in November 1986, he back to Complutense, where he is Full Professor since April 2005. In 1994 he got a Research Fellowship of the EU in Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK. He has delivered Ph.D. Curses in Santa Fe, Buenos Aires and Bahía-Blanca (Argentina), Zürich (Switzerland), Mérida (Venezuela), La Laguna, Sevilla, Granada and Madrid (Spain), Xi’an (P. R. of China), and Hsinchu (Taiwan). He has authorized over 140 research papers and 9 monographs, and has participated in a number of applied research grants ranging from the development and mathematical analysis of high performance reservoir simulators, and the purification of beta-lactanic antibiotics through fixed bed adsorption, up to the analysis of the strategic alliances in competitive environments through the “National Plan of Global Change and Biodiversity” of Spain. He has contributed in wide areas of mathematics covering Linear Algebra and Operator Theory, Singularity and Bifurcation Theory, Nonlinear Functional Analysis, Differential Geometry and Topology, Numerical Analysis, Partial Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems. Among his main contributions count the theorem of characterization of the maximum principle, the construction of an optimal algebraic multiplicity to detect the local changes of the topological degree, the theory of metasolutions within the context of heterogeneous nonlinear parabolic problems, and the development of an abstract theory of competition according with it competition is imperative for biodiversity through spatial segregation and speciation, whereas strategic alliances cause dramatic increments of productivity.
