Daniel Pens Gelain

Department of BiochemistryICBSUFRGS, Brazil

Professor of Biochemistry, develops his work at the Center for Oxidative Stress Research at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, Brazil. Dr. Gelain’s research has been concerned with the role of reactive species in the regulation of cell signal cascades involved in the control of enzyme function, transcription factor modulation and cell cycle control. The physiological outcomes of the redox regulation of such cellular processes in conditions such as malignant transformation, neurodegenerative diseases and pro-inflammatory processes are the focus of his research. The redox properties of natural compounds empirically used in folk medicine and other agents with potential therapeutic applications are also subject of his research.
