Manuel F. Gonzalez Penedo received a Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Santiago of Compostela, Compostela, Spain (1997), and he is now a Full Professor in the Computer Department at the Faculty of Computer Science, University of A Coruña, A Coruña, Spain. Since 1998, he has been the Director of the research group Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (VARPA, He belongs to institutions like Centre for Research in Information Technology and Communications (CITIC) and the Institute of Biomedical Research of A Coruña (INIBIC). Penedo belongs to different scientific committees for the evaluation of research projects and he also belongs to publishing scientific committees and has organized several sessions at international conferences such as the ICIAR, EUROCAST, and KES-InMed. His current research interests include the areas of medical image analysis, image processing, and computer vision. In recent years, part of his research has focused on analysis of eye fundus images, in collaboration with various national hospital eye services. In these areas, he has published several book chapters, papers in journals, and international conferences.
