Joshua K. Ko
Joshua K. Ko received B.S. degree in toxicology and nutritional sciences at the University of Toronto, Toronto, ON, Canada. Upon completion of the doctoral training in pharmacology at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 1995, Ko had been Lecturer and Research Assistant Professor in several universities in Hong Kong, including the HKU Medical School. Ko then joined an emerging biotechnology company as Senior Scientist to pursue R&D. In 2001, Ko joined the School of Chinese Medicine of the Hong Kong Baptist University as Assistant Professor and established the Pharmacology and Toxicology Laboratory in the School. Ko is now Associate Professor and Founding Fellow of the Center for Cancer and Inflammation Research of the institution. Since then, Ko had launched several research projects in the discovery of potential anticancer phytochemicals which have distinctive molecular targets. Ko has special interests in studying bioactive herbal terpenoids and flavonoids in the treatment against colorectal and other gastrointestinal cancers. Ko's recent research direction of his lab includes the use of genomic and proteomic approaches in identifying the biomarkers associated with the drug effects on metastasis, invasiveness, and angiogenesis.
