Yeong-Soon Gal was born in 1961 in Gyeongsangnam-do, Republic of Korea. After receiving his B.S. degree in chemistry from Kyungpook National University, Daegu, Republic of Korea, in 1983, he obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in 1985 and 1988, respectively, in chemistry from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, Republic of Korea. From 1988 to 1995, he was a Senior Research Scientist at the Agency for Defense Development (ADD). Since 1995, Gal has been a Professor of Chemistry at the Chemistry Division of Kyungil University. His research interests focus on the design and synthesis of substituted polyacetylenes, conductive polymer and composites, advanced composites, and functional materials for OLED and solar cells. He has published more than 380 communications, papers, and review articles. He received Outstanding Technical Achievement Awards in 1990 and 1993 from ADD. In 2002, Gal was the recipient of the Excellent Scientist Award of the Polymer Society of Korea (PSK). Also, in 2004, he was the recipient of the Best Professor Award of Kyungil University. He received the Best Paper Award (BPA) of the Lorean Society of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry (KSIEC).
