Medical Institute of Bioregulation, Kyushu University, Japan

Yusaku Nakabeppu is a Professor at the Division of Neurofunctional Genomics, Department of Immunobiology and Neuroscience, Medical Institute of Bioregulation, Kyushu University, Japan. He is a veterinarian and molecular biologist, and he graduated from Graduate School of Sciences, Kyushu University, with a D.S. degree in 1984. In 1997, he was appointed as a Professor at the Medical Institute of Bioregulation, Kyushu University and elected as a Distinguished Professor at Kyushu University in 2010. He has been characterizing nucleotide pool sanitizing enzymes and DNA repair proteins to unveil the mechanisms protecting genomic integrity from damage caused by reactive oxygen species. He is especially focusing on neuronal cell death as a consequence of oxidative damages in nonproliferative cells, as well as on cancer that is a consequence of such damages in proliferative cells. He is now serving as the Director of Research Center for Nucleotide Pool, Kyushu University.
