Ricardo Guimarães Fischer

Ricardo Guimarães Fischer has an MS degree and a Ph.D. degree in periodontology, from the Lund University (Sweden). He serves as a Professor of periodontology at Rio de Janeiro State University, Brazil, and the Dean of the Dental Institute of Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. His main research area is related to periodontal medicine. His studies have focused on the relation of periodontal disease and other diseases, especially cardiovascular and renal diseases, and how periodontal treatment may affect these diseases. He is also involved in the study of the immunological pathway of periodontal diseases.
