Orion Ciftja received a Diploma degree in Condensed Matter Physics (1994) from the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy, and a M.S. (1995) and Ph.D. (1997) in Condensed Matter Physics from the International School of Advanced Studies (SISSA/ISAS), Trieste, Italy. Since 2002, he is a faculty member of the Department of Physics at Prairie View A&M University. Before coming to Prairie View A&M University in 2002, O. Ciftja was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Ames Laboratory, Iowa State University (1997-1999), a Visiting Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University (1999-2000) and a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Missouri, Columbia (2000-2002). His area of interest is theoretical condensed matter physics, in particular the physics of strongly correlated electronic systems, the fractional quantum Hall effect, semiconductor quantum dots and Monte Carlo simulation methods. In 2007, he was recipient of the 2007-2009 KITP Scholar Award by the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP) at the University of California in Santa Barbara.
