Sonia Rocha

Sonia Rocha conducted her undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Sciences, Porto University, where she studied biology and finished in 1996. She obtained her Ph.D. degree from the ETH-Zurich, Switzerland, in 2000. At the end of 2000, she moved to Scotland to conduct postdoctoral work in the group of Neil Perkins at the Biochemistry Department of the University of Dundee, Dundee, Scotland. In October 2005, Sonia was appointed as a Principal Investigator at the College of Life Sciences, University of Dundee. In 2010, she was awarded tenure and in 2011, she obtained a Cancer Research UK Senior fellowship. She is based in the Centre for Gene Regulation and Expression, and her research interests are focused on gene expression mechanisms following hypoxic stress, with focus on HIF, NF-kappa B, and chromatin.
