Jodi Gonzalez obtained her Ph.D. degree in counseling psychology from the University of North Texas in 1999. She joined the University of Texas Health Science Center's San Antonio Faculty at the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Division in 2000. She has focused most of her research in the area of psychosocial variables in bipolar disorder. She is a recipient of a 2007 NARSAD Young Investigator Award to develop psychotherapy techniques in complicated bipolar disorder. She serves currently as a PI of a randomized clinical trial comparing a peer-led intervention to a control group in persons with bipolar disorder who are currently unengaged in professional mental health treatment. Additional areas of research include ethnicity/race, attitudes toward mental health treatment, adherence to treatments, and community-based research. In 2009, she was awarded the title Psychiatrist of the Year by the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill San Antonio. She supervises and teaches psychiatry and psychology residents in psychotherapy models and treatments and works as a Psychologist.
